Window View I Acrylics on canvas 19x14" / 48 x 36 cm by Ebba Jahn

Window View
Acrylics on Canvas Pad
48 x 36 cm / 19" x 14"
Ebba Jahn, 2013

This is a view from my vacation window on the island Bornholm - soon the short garden light will turn itself on, but not yet. Most of it I painted on location, while sitting uncomfortably on a bed in that tiny room... I guess, that's why I didn't finish it. The actual Daily Paintworks Gallery "The Window Challenge" reminded me of its existence on my canvas pad, so here comes my completed contribution for the challenge.  You can see other windows
or the auction
of this paintig at my Daily Paintworks Gallery.
As always, you can also send a mail  >>

Rocks in Bornholm
Acrylic on canvas
4.7" x 6" / 12 cm x 15 cm
Ebba Jahn, 2013

Fascinated by yellow lichen or alga growing on rocks at the Bornholm coast,
I expressed it freely in this small painting.

Rocks in Bornholm
15 cm x 18 cm with slightly larger white edge
than depicted (for those who do prefer a shabby look).

Ex-Roegeri in Bornholm I Acrylics on Canvas 14" x 14" / 36 cm x 36 cm

Ex-Roegeri in Bornholm
Acrylics on canvas
14" x 14" / 36 cm x 36 cm
Ebba Jahn, 2013

Many fisher houses with chimneys for smoking fish in Bornholm have been replaced by a few modern manufacturies - this plain air painting includes a hint towards that development. As one can see the square painting on thick cotton canvas needs a board to be mounted on, or a frame. Until then sending it carefully rolled up remains an option.
Now it goes up for auction

Raps in Bornholm I Acrylics on Canvas 14" x 19" / 36 x 48 cm

Raps in Bornholm
Acrylics on canvas
14" x 19" / 36 cm x 48 cm
Ebba Jahn, 2013
The rape (Raps) fields were at their yellow peak in Bornholm and I had never seen anything like that before: The sun is shining upon it until the yellow starts screaming and a dark sky is happening at the same time - painting it plein air was a no brainer. Of course that brain got a little dizzy while sitting right infront of the field for some hours - now we know, that the odorous substance is poisonous, but thanks to the wind's direction it remained bearable. The painting depicts an abstract of this experience, as always are the colors of the original so much brighter...

Now up for auction at dailypaintworks

Bornholm III I Acrylics on Canvas 7" x 7" / 18 cm x 18 cm

Bornholm III
Acrylics on Canvas
7" x 7" / 18 cm x 18 cm
+ white edge
Ebba Jahn, 2013

Colors of an old boat left an impression ...
here with edges appearing oily and shabby...
For those who are not fond of them there's always the option of a mat or frame -
15 cm x 15 cm cuts a sharp square line around the image.

Bornholm Ceramics I Acrylics 6" x 6" / 15 cm x 15 cm

Bornholm Ceramics
Acryl on stretched canvas
6" x 6"  / 15 cm x 15 cm
Ebba Jahn, 2013

I found these in the house I stayed in: Two original ceramic pieces, hand-thrown and glazed in the old Bornholm Hjorths Fabrik which is now a ceramic museum. They still produce a variety of ceramics to show how they were done -  it keeps the small old manufactury and some artists alife - and visitors can walk through the workshops...

Bornholm Funnel & Flower I Oil on Canvas 8" x 8" / 20 cm x 20 cm

Bornholm Funnel & Flower
Oil on wooden strechers for cotton canvas
20 cm x 20 cm / 8" x 8
Ebba Jahn, 2013
This utilitarian object has its own history that speaks to the passage of time seen through fading paint, scratches and rust, and it spoke to me so this funnel in traditional scandinavian-blue became a souvenir from a trip to the beautiful Danish island Bornholm - painting this still life got me into the spirit for my recent trip there ..
